CQ Hotels Wellington scoop prestigious prize at Wellington Gold Awards
CQ Hotels Wellington has claimed top honours by winning Team Gold at the Wellington Gold Awards, in a spectacular black tie gala event at the TSB Arena on the weekend.
The Wellington Gold Awards celebrate excellence and enterprise in Wellington’s businesses, showcasing business talent and capability.
CQ Hotels was recognised for its commitment to regular team-bonding events with upskilling and mentoring programmes bringing a sense of unity, as well as staff involvement in the community with organisations like Cystic Fibrosis and the Malaghan Institute.
Reflecting on the win, CQ Hotels Wellington General Manager Olivia Lacoua commented;
“We are incredibly humbled by this achievement. It really is testament to my staff and their sense of pride in ‘giving back’ both in the workplace and in our community – we truly have an amazing culture in the hotel. I believe we all have a role to play in ensuring we live in an inclusive society and I hope that other employers can learn from and be inspired by what we have achieved tonight.”
“Our commitment to working and supporting diverse groups within the community continues as we strive to be inclusive and engaging with all people within our society.”
In 2013, CQ Hotels became the first hotel in the country to introduce New Zealand Sign Language training for staff. The NZSL course ultimately gives staff confidence and abilities to communicate effectively with their Deaf customers.
CQ Hotels has partnered with Workbridge and other organisations to employ Deaf staff and give them an opportunity to work in the hotel. The hotel has permanently employed four Deaf staff to work in the CQ Restaurant and there are plans for more opportunities to be made available in the near future.
The latest win follows a string of successes for the Wellington hotel, having been presented with an Absolutely Positively Wellington Award by Mayor Celia Wade-Brown this month and taking home two awards at the New Zealand Sign Language Awards recently.
