Powder hounds happy and more to come for Coronet Peak and The Remarkables

Queenstown snow-lovers and happy holidaymakers have been treated to a whiter-than-white snow day at the resort town’s ski fields.

Lucky locals and visitors were celebrating fresh powder, blue skies and calm conditions at Coronet Peak and The Remarkables today(Monday July 25).

The last weekend of the New Zealand school holidays saw Coronet Peak receive 17cm of fresh snow over the weekend, and a good 30cm up at The Remarkables.

Freezing overnight temperatures plummeted to -5C at Coronet Peak last night which enabled the ski area’s snowmaking system to transform 3.5 million litres of water into even more fluffy ‘white gold’.

After a weekend of variable weather conditions, ongoing cooler temperatures are expected to keep recent snow dumps in great condition, with still more to come. There’s over 20cm in the forecast this week for Coronet Peak, and regular top-ups at The Remarkables.

Boasting a solid one metre snow base at the top of The Remarkables and Coronet Peak, both ski areas have superb snow on and off trail, with stashes of untouched powder pockets still to be found.
