Entries open for annual Leading Light Awards

Preparations are well underway for the annual West Coast Leading Light Business Excellence Awards, and entries are starting to roll in says Development West Coast Chief Executive Chris Mackenzie.

Television personality Ric Salizzo has been confirmed as the MC for the gala evening, being held on 14 October at Shantytown.

This will be the Awards’ fifth year and Mr Mackenzie says the calibre of the entries is always impressive.

“This is the chance for local businesses to come together and celebrate their successes. We have so many diverse businesses and industries that are punching above their weight and this is the opportunity for us as a community to acknowledge that,” he says.

“As a region, the West Coast has challenges that are unique. In supporting each other and finding ways to beat those challenges, we all play a role in ensuring this region is prosperous.”

Businesses can choose one of five categories to enter and also seek to be considered for the ACC Workplace Safety Award and DOC Environment Award. The night’s supreme winner is selected from the five category winners.

Last year Holcim Cement Westport Works won the Duncan Cotterill Enterprise 30+ Award and was crowned the supreme winner taking the Greymouth Star Super Nova Award.

Mr Mackenzie says the awards evening is well supported with sponsorship from both local businesses and national organisations.

“This support shows how highly regarded the Awards are, so I really encourage all West Coast businesses to enter. The event itself is a fantastic gala night and it is an excellent way to get together and appreciate the hard work we all do in this region.”

Entry forms and information can be found at www.leadinglight.org.nz. Entries close on 18 August.
