Prius Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Prius Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Electric vehicles are the future of New Zealand transport, 80 percent of the energy produced in New Zealand is renewable making Electric vehicles (EV’s) a reliable and sustainable mode of transport into the future.

The Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority and the New Zealand Transport Association have identified; model range of EV’s, infrastructure and cost to purchase as significant barriers to the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in New Zealand.

Auckland City Toyota and Toyota New Zealand aim to change this by introducing both the Prius plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and charging stations.

The Prius PHEV combines hybrid technology with a powerful Lithium-ion battery capable of speeds up to 100km/h and boasts only a 90 minute charge time.

This car will be sold as a signature class vehicle, with additional benefits including a 5 year warranty, 5 years AA roadside assistance, 5 years of warrant of fitness checks and 5 year battery and hybrid system cover, ensuring trouble free motoring.

New EV’s can be extremely expensive in New Zealand and by offering the Prius PHEV as a signature class vehicle Toyota are aiming to make the car more affordable with an expected sale price of between $35,000 - $40,000, almost half the cost of buying new.

Sale of the Prius PHEV will be confined to just six dealerships across New Zealand, Auckland City Toyota are anticipating its arrival and are keen to adopt it to their range of environmentally sustainable vehicles.

With an increasing range of Electric and hybrid vehicles, Auckland City Toyota are excited to be installing charging stations early next year at each of their three dealership across Auckland for all EV vehicle owners to use free of charge.

The charging stations will add valuable EV infrastructure to the Auckland area and assist in making environmentally friendly vehicles a more popular and convenient choice going into the future.
