Future leadership programme to be launched at FOMA Annual Conference


The Federation of Maori Authorities, in partnership with Te Putea Whakatupu Trust, will be launching a unique programme aimed at supporting emerging leaders to ensure on-going success of the Maori economy.

“Future leadership is key to Māori economic development and advancement and both FOMA and Te Putea Whakatupu share a vision where existing leaders support future leadership through mentoring and coaching. FOMA and Te Putea Whakatupu are long time strategic partners and are pleased to be working together to develop the next generation,” said FOMA Chairman Traci Houpapa.

The programme that is set to be launched on day one of the FOMA Annual Conference next week acknowledges that FOMA members are strategically aligned to support each other grow their leadership capability.

“Growing good leadership is critical to ensure economic, cultural and environmental sustainability, and that’s something our members are strong in.”

Te Putea Whakatupu Trust spokesperson said, “We are excited to be able to join with FOMA on the Future Leadership Programme. Over the past 6 years we have been growing our TPWT Alumni, stunning young Maori who have been studying at the tertiary level in commerce, agribusiness and fisheries. The Future leadership programme is a great opportunity for us to work with FOMA to grow our future leaders and decision makers of our Maori and wider New Zealand economy”.
