Kiwis supporting those in need on Givealittle

Kiwis have opened their hearts over the last week to those affected by the Kaikoura Earthquake. Their generosity has been vital in ensuring that those in desperate need receive support.

Below are a number of new pages set up in the last week that New Zealanders can donate to.

Barnardos NZ Earthquake Relief Fund

Barnardos NZ has staff in Kaikoura impacted by last week's huge earthquake and staff are now being given the opportunity to support their colleagues in any way they can.

Those living in the area continue to be without power, reticulated water and have limited communication with the rest of the country. Basic food items are also in short supply! Barnardos will match staff donations on Givealittle up to $6,000 - with all proceeds being distributed to the Kaikoura staff.

Tussy and her five sons

Many families have had their lives upended by the Kaikoura Earthquake last week, with many left homeless and struggling for food and water. Mother of five Tussy is one such person, whose house was destroyed by the devastating 'quake.

The family need all the help they can get over the coming weeks, as they come to terms with being displaced from their home. Not only have they suffered through this, but Tussy and her kids were previously based in Christchurch, living through the events in 2011 there as well.

The Betts Family

The November 14th earthquake has left four branches of the Betts Family sheltering under one roof, with no sewage or running water. All four families have suffered sustained loss and damage to their homes and business - which several family members work for.

With very limited access in or out of Kaikoura, the family are facing a difficult and uncertain period. Any donations given will go towards helping out the family with their day-to-day living expenses, as several of the family who rely on their business have now lost their livelihood.

Kaikoura Marine Centre and Aquarium

The Kaikoura Marine Centre and Aquarium has been hit hard by the recent earthquake, with the doors having to be closed for the foreseeable future and some of the sea life losing their lives.

The animals that could be saved have been put back into the sea, with the centre unable to house them due to extensive damage to tanks.

A lot of work is required in order to get the centre back up and running, with any donations greatly appreciated by the owners.
