Transfervans, the
‘Uber for Moving’, launches in
Auckland
Stop begging your friends for
help, new on-demand service solves most trucking
needs
You just found a great second-hand sofa that
would fit perfectly in your lounge, but it has to be picked
up on the other side of town. The problem is that it won’t
fit in your car. What do you do? If you’re like most
people, you call a mate that has a pickup van and beg him to
help you. An Auckland company is fighting hard to change
this.
Transfervans is a new on-demand platform
that wants to take the hassle out of moving bulky items. The
idea is to connect people who have vans and trucks with
those who need help moving oversized items. It’s like an
Uber for big stuff. Sounds simple, but there’s a lot of
technology behind it.
Created by Brian Karlson, also the founder of Transfercar, an innovative company specialised in free rental cars, Transfervans is only a few months old, but it is already generating revenue with a spectacular growth. ‘’The moving industry hasn’t really changed in the past few decades, so as a consumer you’re only left with bad options: asking a friend for help doesn’t fill right, renting a van to do it yourself is inconvenient, and existing moving services are expensive and impractical’’, said Karlson. ‘’I was in the midst of buying outdoor furniture when I realised I could only be delivered during the weekdays when I work. I decided to solve this problem!’’
Transfervans initially focused on moving furniture and large items, but the service has now expanded to small house and apartment moves. Like Uber, the company is building a network of independent van and truck drivers who are happy to accept jobs whenever they want, using excess capacity or working a bit extra on top of a regular job.
Karlson believes the company is reinventing the industry by focusing on four pillars: affordability, convenience, trust and transparency. By building an efficient system without having to bear the costs of having its own fleet, Transfervans manages to be cheaper than its competition, and it offers guaranteed upfront pricing. In true on-demand fashion, deliveries can be scheduled whenever the consumer decides, and of course, all drivers are verified.
The company is currently servicing Auckland only, but it is looking at rapidly expanding across Australasia.
