Opus Announces Three New Sector Leads to Drive Water Strategy

Opus International Consultants (Opus) has appointed three global Sector Leaders to drive and implement its new water strategy.

“We have award winning water capabilities in New Zealand and Canada and our strategy is about building on that, targeting opportunities across the globe. To achieve our vision we are glad to have appointed three very smart, innovative leaders, ” says Opus Chief Executive Dr David Prentice.

Timothy Phelan has been appointed Sector Leader for Water and Wastewater Treatment. As the current Director of Water Treatment Group for Opus Canada, Mr Phelan has over 21 years’ experience in water supply, treatment and transmission - specialising in surface water treatment. He has international design experience in water and wastewater treatment and was the Lead Process Engineer for the planning, design and construction of one of Canada’s largest water treatment plants; Metro Vancouver’s Seymour Capilano Filtration Plant.

Liam Foster has been appointed as Sector Leader for Water Resources and Flood Risk Management. Mr Foster has over 16 years’ experience in water environmental consultancies, working with local, national and multi-national organisations and is the current Principal Environmental Consultant and National Services Area Lead for Stormwater and Flood Risk Management in Opus’ Christchurch office. Over the past year-and-a-half, he has worked extensively to deliver first class client experiences in the water resources and flood risk management arena.

Stephen McNally has been appointed as Sector Leader for Water for Agriculture. Mr McNally brings 30 years’ experience in the agriculture and horticulture industry across contracting, consultancy, leadership and business management roles, and is currently the National Technical Director for Productive Water, in Opus’ Wellington office. He has contributed to the advancement of the irrigation through technical education and development of New Zealand Codes of Practice and Standards, and was elected to the Board of Irrigation New Zealand in 2004, and still holds a seat in 2016.

As reported in April, Opus is pursuing a new strategy which fundamentally repositions the business, targeting specific sectors, including Transportation, Water and Buildings, and building global capability in asset management, innovation and the environment.
