New headquarters to double impact across Auckland

KiwiHarvest Opens new headquarters to double its impact across Auckland

Auckland’s fresh food rescue organization KiwiHarvest, will open its brand new headquarters this month, in a bid to double its impact and reach more Aucklanders in need.

The opening will be attended by Auckland mayor Phil Goff, former New Zealand All Black captain David Kirk and KiwiHarvest Chairman; all of whom will speak at the breakfast launch to thank businesses and supporters for their donated goods and services.

KiwiHarvest is, a not-for-profit organization that collects quality surplus fresh food from supermarkets, wholesalers, growers, cafes and caterers and delivers it free of charge to Auckland charities, to be shared with people in need.

“While food rescue is KiwiHarvest’s focus, education and engaging communities are at the heart of our mission,” says KiwiHarvest Chief Executive Deborah Manning.

Since beginning operations in 2014, the organization has delivered the equivalent of 750,000 meals to more than 100 charities. This has saved over 250 tonnes of good food from landfill.

KiwiHarvest was spawned by the success of Dunedin’s food rescue charity FoodShare, founded by Deborah Manning in 2012.

Following its huge success and increasing support from brands and businesses that wanted to help, the Auckland counterpart was launched.

KiwiHarvest’s new headquarters have been repurposed from old shipping containers, further adding to its goal of sustainable food and living.

Goodman NZ Chief Executive John Dakin and Goodman Foundation Chief Executive Jo Cameron will also attend the launch to speak.

The launch will be held on Wednesday 22 February 2017.
