TEDxWellingtonSalon offers surprises and announcements

TEDxWellingtonSalon at The Roxy Cinema offers surprises and announcements

The next TEDxWellington community salon event will be held at The Roxy Cinema on Wednesday 22 March, 6.30–8pm. Tickets will be available on Wednesday 8 March at 12 noon via Eventbrite.

This TEDxWellingtonSalon will offer even more than usual – those lucky enough to be at The Roxy Cinema will be the first to hear the announcement of the TEDxWellington 2017 conference theme. There will also be a special surprise for attendees, making this a not-to-be-missed event for TEDx fans.

The evening will also include exciting updates from previous TEDxWellington speakers: Dr Shaun Holt who spread the word about the medical uses of honey at TEDxWellington in 2016, Dylan Coburn who spoke at the 2014 event about using creativity to answer the question “how was your day today?”, and Fiona King who discussed the natural undertaking of funerals in 2016.

The salon also marks the closing date for speaker/performer applications, so those interested in being a part of the TEDxWellington event on18 June are encouraged to apply before 6pm on 22 March.

The Roxy Cinema is excited to be hosting this event, as Erica Brooks, Head of Brand and Marketing, explains: “The Roxy and TEDxWellington share a common ethos when it comes to nurturing creativity and providing our local community with access to ideas worth spreading – we do it through the medium of film, while TEDxWellington utilises the enormous talent resident in our city, along with global guests. It’s a perfect partnership, and we’re very proud to be hosting the next TEDxWellingtonSalon. As big supporters of Wellington’s creative community, it’s our pleasure to welcome the TEDx community of creative minds!”

TEDx salons are smaller, more intimate, community events, with more opportunities for conversation and interaction between the audience and speakers. As well as listening to speaker updates, attendees will watch international TED Talks together and take part in interactions, to spark discussions and thinking on a range of different topics.

This is the sixth TEDxWellingtonSalon, and is open to residents throughout the Wellington region. Tickets are free, and – following TED rules – the salon will be limited to just 100 people. A koha/nominal fee will be requested to cover some costs, and a cash bar will be available along with some other refreshments.

The salon is expected to sell out fast – continuing the trend of previous TEDxWellington events and salons, all of which have sold out.

This will be the last chance to attend a salon before the upcoming 2017 TEDxWellington event on Sunday 18 June 2017 at St James Theatre.

Fans can follow TEDxWellington on Twitter, Facebook or sign up for emails on the website for news about tickets and other updates.

TEDxWellington 2017 is sponsored by Victoria University of Wellington. Partners include Creative Welly, Strategy Creative, Fox & Co, Bluestar, Absolutely Positively Wellington City Council, WREDA, Mojo, Good Buzz and BizDojo.
