Latest Gigcity Community Fund Round Opens

Applications are now open for Dunedin organisations and charity groups seeking funding from the GigCity Community Fund for innovative community project ideas using gigabit technology.

As part of Dunedin winning the Gigatown competition, Chorus gave $500,000 to assist the city’s community groups to create initiatives using gig and UFB technology to enhance the development, experimentation and implementation of community, learning and workforce opportunities.

In the latest funding round – the fourth of five funding rounds – groups can apply for a maximum of $20,000 per project, unless multiple organisations collaborate. Projects need to be able to be delivered within a 12-month timeframe, be concepts that can be picked up by other organisations and must demonstrate how they will add value to the community and city. Around $100,000 will be awarded in this round.

“As the second to last round of funding from Dunedin’s Gigatown win, we’re expecting some exciting new proposals from the city’s organisations and individuals,” says Kim Stewart, Chorus Dunedin Liaison Manager.

“We’re looking for community innovators exploring the use of UFB technologies that will make a difference to people’s everyday lives and will make this great city even better.”

To date, $268,086 out of the $500,000 pledged by Chorus has been awarded to community projects ranging from VR through to programming workshops and application development.

Projects will be reviewed by a community panel with decisions announced in June.
