SPOKESPERSON FOR NZ RODEO & COWBOYS ASSOCIATION
The NZ Rodeo & Cowboys Association has appointed former MP and Mayor Michael Laws as its national and media spokesperson, effective immediately.
NZ Rodeo president Marty Deans says that the rodeo fraternity has been subject to a lot of ill-informed criticism over recent years, mostly from animal activist groups.
The appointment of a professional communicator and spokesperson, resident in the heartland of Otago, is designed to further the interests of rodeo in New Zealand and convey NZ Rodeo’s messages to the wider public.
Michael Laws said that he was looking forward to “presenting the other side of the rodeo debate and presenting a factual and scientific case to any debate.”
“ Rodeo is a thriving community presenting an entertaining, family-friendly
sport that has genuine appeal to provincial and rural New Zealand.
We’d love to get more urban folk involved and completely support
existing animal welfare legislation.”
