emhLabs takes top electricity innovation prize
Thursday 13 April, 2017 – emhLabs, the team behind peer-to-peer electricity company P2 Power, has won first place in The Lightning Lab’s Innovation Challenge.
Announced Wednesday 12 April 2017, the inaugural Innovation Challenge Award celebrates New Zealand innovators who are working to improve the future of electric energy.
emhLabs’ winning innovation is a home energy efficiency rating system that doesn’t require a site visit.
“New Zealand households use about a third of the energy supplied to their homes on heating, which is a huge outlay for many Kiwi families. Aside from some guesswork, most people currently have little ability to compare properties’ energy efficiency,” says Stu Innes, director of emhLabs.
emhLabs’ automated, data-driven system allows consumers to make the right purchase. In turn, Innes hopes this will encourage landlords to improve their properties’ energy efficiency.
“We’re thrilled to have been part of the Innovation Challenge. It’s great that there are sponsors in the industry helping to foster and enable innovation by recognising how data can help create warmer, drier homes for New Zealanders,” says Innes.
He continues: “This is just one of a myriad of innovations that we are working on here at the lab, all of which are geared towards using technology to make a better energy future for New Zealand and the planet as a whole.”
