The Backpacker Youth and Adventure Travel Association (BYATA) is delighted to announce that its 8th annual conference will take place in Wellington on 23-24 August.

The theme for the 2017 conference is ‘Tourism Dispersal and Diversity’ – how to future proof your world, which is a direct outcome of increasing the economic contribution made by tourism at a national and regional level.

BYATA Deputy Chair Mary Tolley says the conference aims to provide a great balance of inspiration, smarter business practices and forward thinking.

“We already have 80 delegates registered for the conference, ranging from YHA managers to multinational companies, large national businesses to owner-operator businesses.

“This is going to be an exciting couple of days and a chance for everyone to stand back from the day to day business, think about how to make the most of their business, and network with like-minded business people.”

Some of the questions the conference will tackle include:

· How do our members cope with the rise in visitors and still ensure they give travellers the high-quality experience they expect?

· Can we provide a sector within New Zealand's tourism industry that is highly valued by New Zealanders, but still offers dispersal of visitors across the regions?

· Is our industry getting too greedy?

· What impact do influencers like Brexit and Donald Trump have on our industry?

Most of the keynote speakers have been confirmed and include Mark Frood from Auckland International Airport, Dave Wild from NZTE, Ella Frater from Tourism New Zealand and Andrew Johns from MBIE.

The conference will be held at Te Papa in Wellington.
