A substantial dairy farm and associated run-off block in South Canterbury – including approximately 1,100 cows plus young stock – has been placed on the market for sale as a going concern.

The properties are located under the rain shadow of the Hunter Hills and feature a 501.944 hectare dairy platform located at 3150 Back Line Road at Kohika plus a 119.9636 hectare self-contained run-off located at 316 Campbell Forrest Road, which is only four kilometres from the dairy platform on a quiet country road.

Milk solids output from the farm have grown steadily since the 2008/2009 season -with the last three year average being 442,000kgMS. In the past, the farm has used the in-shed feeding system which has significantly boosted production and more recently management has opted to grow fodder beet which has worked out more economical.

The two predominantly easy rolling terrain land holdings are owned by Back Line Downs Ltd. All the assets of the company are now being marketed as a going concern by deadline negotiation through Bayleys Canterbury, with offers closing 4pm Friday 13 October 2017 at the Bayleys Canterbury Ashburton office.

Bayleys Canterbury salespeople Nick Young and George Morris said the farm offering included all land, buildings, stock and plant with 451,215 Fonterra shares.

Mr Morris said building infrastructure on the properties included:

• An 80 bail Rotary milking shed with automatic drafting and cup removers, a 500 cow round yard as well as another 500 cow yard adjacent, plus DeLaval ALPRO herd management system

• A 30,000 litre molasses tank, a 200 tonne grain silo and roller mill, plus a 16 tonne concentrate silo

• A 10 bay calf shed with milk gravity fed from the dairy shed and five bay implement shed

and

• Housing infrastructure of four homes in total - three homes located on the dairy farm and one home located on the run-off block.

Mr Young said effluent on the farm is collected in two ponds – each with a capacity of three million litres, with the resulting by-product pumped out via K-Line irrigators. Regular soil testing has been undertaken on the dairy farm/run-off ensuring that the appropriate ratios of fertiliser and nitrogen have been applied.

Both the dairy platform and the run-off block have a good reliable water supply.
