IAG New Zealand celebrates industry leadership at insurance awards

IAG New Zealand has won three of the top awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for Karl Armstrong, at tonight’s Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance Awards (ANZIIF).

NZI took out the Intermediated Insurance Company and Innovation of the year awards at tonight’s ceremony, held at the SkyCity Convention Centre, Auckland. In awarding the Intermediated Insurance Company award, judges applauded NZI's forward-thinking, relationship-first approach and impressive disaster response process.

IAG’s Executive General Manager for Risk & Underwriting, Karl Armstrong, was presented with the ANZIIF Lifetime Achievement Award. The judges said Mr Armstrong’s passion for the industry has enabled him to be a vocal advocate for positive change throughout his eminent career.
After a period of unprecedented challenges, including both the Kaikōura earthquake and Edgecumbe floods, CEO Craig Olsen says tonight’s awards acknowledge the hard work and dedication of IAG staff across Aotearoa.
“I want to congratulate all of IAG’s winners and finalists in the ANZIIF Awards.
“It’s a great achievement to be a finalist in both the Women’s Insurance Employer of the Year and Direct General Insurance Company categories, and I particularly want to recognise Amanda Cooper and Sophie Riddle who were both finalists in Young Insurance Professional of the Year.

“It’s a fantastic effort for NZI to win in the Intermediated Insurance Company of the Year award, as well as the Innovation of the Year category for the Seeing Machines Guardian System. The system, part of the NZI Fleet Fit programme, detects driver fatigue and distraction in real time to help drivers prevent accidents, save lives and get home safely.

“It was also a very special moment to see IAG’s Karl Armstrong win the ANZIIF Lifetime Achievement Award for his 46 years of service. Karl began his career with NZI in 1971 and has held a variety of senior roles during his time with IAG companies. For many years he’s been a respected, trusted leader and advisor at IAG and across the wider insurance industry.

“Karl’s contribution was aptly celebrated tonight in front of an audience of his wife Jane, friends and peers.

“It was a great night for all of us at IAG as we recognised the women of IAG, our young professionals, our innovation, the overall performance of our brands and concluded with special recognition for the industry professional and statesman, Karl Armstrong.”
