Avis expands green fleet

Two additional hybrid models have just bolstered the New Zealand fleet of Avis Car Rental making theirs the largest fleet of hybrid rental vehicles available in New Zealand. The luxury BMW X5 XDrive40e plug in electric Hybrid SUV and Toyota Corolla Hybrid Hatch will sit alongside the existing Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Avis New Zealand, General Manager, Bruce Vincer says; “More than ever before, people want to minimise their impact on the planet, and that can simply start with the type of vehicle they rent. We’ve worked hard to ensure we have the latest in ‘green’ vehicle technology so that our customers can enjoy a wider range of eco-friendly, hybrid vehicles delivering lower CO2 emissions and better fuel efficiency. We are absolutely committed to this and will be steadily adding more hybrid, plug-in Hybrid electric and pure electric models to our fleet as customer demand increases.”

The stylish, eco-savvy BMW X5 XDrive40e Plug in Electric Hybrid is a stand-out in the Avis premium Signature Series range. BMW’s first plug-in-hybrid SUV, it combines a 2.0L TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery. The eDrive technology lets the driver choose different modes of engine management and performance to suit their needs. When driving in the city, short distances can be covered in the fully electric mode, and driving in the hybrid mode enables combined fuel consumption of 3.3 l/100 km*, with CO2 emissions of 77 g/km*. The ultimate in luxury and ‘green’ technology, the BMWX5 XDrive40e Plug In Hybrid is available from selected New Zealand airport locations.
