Good Idea! Feds Likes NZX Primary Sector Index Concept
Federated Farmers congratulates the New Zealand Stock Exchange for coming up with the idea of creating a ‘primary sector index’ for investors.
The NZX intends to launch the new primary sector index later this year, where it will sit alongside the existing indices for other sectors such as energy, healthcare and real estate.
The index will include 15 companies, including Fonterra and A2 Milk.
"As the board of the NZX acknowledged in their announcement, our sector generates a significant portion of the country’s wealth.
"It makes sense it should be recognised this way," Federated Farmers economics and commerce spokesperson Andrew Hoggard says.
The NZX describes the sector as New Zealand’s "natural advantage".
"What we like about this concept is that it gives Kiwis and off-shore investors the chance to see the value in the sector.
"In many ways it will be a stronger indicator of the overall economic performance of the sector than the statistics we rely on now, and it will move faster," Andrew says.
