Feds gives full backing to new Primary Sector Council
Federated Farmers is looking forward to working with the new Primary Sector Council announced this morning by the Minister of Agriculture Damien O’Connor.
Federated Farmers National President Katie Milne says Feds will do what it can to support the council.
"Having a dedicated panel for the primary sector is exciting.
"It is a chance to really get focused on how New Zealand’s most important export earning sector will respond to a fast-paced changing world.
"We’ve noted the make-up of the panel has focused on industry innovators and leaders. This is perhaps at the expense of long standing, experienced practicing farmers. They have a wealth of knowledge that could also add value to the conversation.
"However, this is an opportunity for Federated Farmers to offer advice to the council and to work with them on issues facing agriculture."
Katie is heartened by the forward thinking of inviting the Young Farmer of the Year, Nigel Woodhead, and the Young Horticulturist of the Year, Shanna Hickling, to the council sessions as a development opportunity.
"It speaks of future proofing the sector," she says.
