Water bottler to consider resource consent appeals

Creswell New Zealand says it will take its time to review appeals against the granting of its resource consents and remains open to discussions to address concerns set out by the three appellants.

Last month, independent commissioners for the Whakatane District Council and Bay of Plenty Regional Council granted resource consents to Creswell. Their decision is now being appealed by a neighbours group Sustainable Otakiri, Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa and the Ngāti Tūwharetoa (BOP) Settlement Trust.

The Overseas Investment Office last month approved the purchase of Otakiri Springs from its owners, the Robertson family. Creswell is a wholly-owned subsidiary of family-owned and operated bottling company, Nongfu Spring.

Creswell managing director Michael Gleissner acknowledges the three appeals and says he will take his time to consider the matters raised.

“It’s important we have a robust process to ensure the right decisions are made and these appeals are part of that process,” Gleissner says. “We’re going to take our time considering their filings and we remain open to talking with all the parties concerned while this process continues.”
