New Palmers Store in Petone

August 2, 2018
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

NEW PALMERS STORE
brings a fresh approach to retail in Petone

Petone and Hutt locals are about to experience a fresh approach to garden retail with Palmers opening in the old IBM precinct on 1st August.

Palmers has completely remodelled half of the old IBM warehouse and turned it in to a contemporary garden and lifestyle destination, with an indoor retail space to match the attention of shoppers as much as the garden centre.

Modelled on the extremely popular and diverse garden centres of Europe, inside the retail space will be home to a wide range of gifts and home décor, fresh flowers, games, toys and activities, garden décor, the widest selection of houseplants in Petone, and a soon to be opened Café Botannix, Palmers in-house café brand.

To complete the outdoor living theme is a wide range of barbeques and grilling accessories, outdoor furniture and even spa pools. Customers can also purchase a curated range of Stihl battery and cordless garden tools designed for smaller gardens, the first collaboration between the two brands to come to fruition in 2018.

“We are really excited about bringing Palmers to Petone after what has been a long period of development since securing the site in 2015” says Palmers General Manager Rod de Vries. Originally slated to open in spring of 2017, changes to the Building Act in the wake of the Christchurch earthquakes meant additional strengthening was required to bring the property to code, which delayed the project a further 12 months.

“Palmers have taken an iconic New Zealand brand and revitalised it in a truly spectacular fashion. When people first come to Palmers Petone they will be in for a very pleasant surprise.”

“We will have virtually everything a family needs for their home and for outdoor living spaces: spa pools; barbecues and outdoor furniture; products to decorate a home’s interior; house plants and flowers; gourmet food and treats to take home, as well as fashion items, gifts, books and so much more.

de Vries says the new Palmers store comprises a large 1,000 square metres of bright, vibrant retail space alongside another 1,600 square metres of garden centre, most of which is undercover. As well as stocking everything you’d expect from a garden centre, Palmers stocks the widest range of top quality roses, a huge selection of contemporary lightweight pots, and the team of garden and outdoor experts are on hand to help customers choose the best plants for local growing conditions.

The new Palmers Petone is situated on Victoria Street on the old IBM site and near McDonalds and Pak n Save. There are plenty of parking spaces available and easy wheelchair access.

Palmers Petone will be officially opened on Saturday August 11th at 9am by Deputy Mayor David Bassett. Thereafter, opening hours will be 8:30am to 5.30pm seven days a week.
