Spookers is For Sale

Spookers is For Sale

Spookers Haunted Attraction Theme Park has engaged Elaine Ford, of Divest Ltd to market Spookers for sale. This decision has been made after receiving international interest in purchasing the Spookers brand only. Initially a buyer will be sought for the entire unique tourism business which includes Spookers, The Amazing Maze ‘n Maize, CornEvil, and Run for Your Freak’n Life mud run/obstacle race.

If a buyer is not found for Spookers as a going concern either to operate as it is or to relocate, Spookers owners will consider selling the significant IP. Spookers has been located at Kingseat, Auckland for 13 years and is a testament to the outstanding team that has been assembled and trained for a business that was created in an entirely new genre to NZ.

Spookers is New Zealand’s biggest operator in the haunted horror entertainment field; an industry that in USA claims more than $1 billion of ticket sales. Spookers has scared and entertained around 2,000,000 victims over the years including many famous faces, and high-profile sports teams.

Spookers owners, Andy and Beth Watson would like to spend more time at home, with Andy’s role as the Mayor of the Rangitikei becoming very challenging and with some exciting projects there coming to fruition. Their daughter Julia and son-in-law Jemall Tukiri, also Spookers owners have started a new business using Jemall’s draftsman skills, and Julia is looking forward to spending more time with their young children and trying something new.

Julia Tukiri, Spookers Managing Director, says we’re incredibly excited about the potential this may unlock for a new owner, and for us in the years to come. People have approached us in the past, and while flattered, we didn’t think the time was right to let our baby go. However, over the course of the last few months we have realised that a new owner of Spookers will be able to bring some new excitement, new ideas, growth and enthusiasm to the business. We’re confident about this next move for us, and for Spookers. Someone out there will have great respect for the innovative entertainment business we’ve built, the Spookers brand, our incredible team, and for our Spookers culture.

Spookers has amazingly passionate repeat customers and over 472,000 Facebook followers. It is recognised as a world class tourism attraction and regularly features in television, online and print media stories. Should Spookers sell, the new owners could inherit a strong team of dedicated and committed staff.

As there is no guarantee that Spookers will be sold, everything will remain the same until that happens. During the marketing period Spookers will continue to operate a world class Haunted Attraction, and any bookings made, or tickets sold will be honoured as usual. Christmas functions which are a large part of the year end bookings will go ahead as planned.

Spookers has developed a range of entertainment services, delivered them to hundreds of thousands of people and had great fun while doing it. These include the R.16 nights, daytime family Taste of Terror, the Amazing Maze ‘n Maize, the Easter Eggstravaganza, Run for Your Freak’n Life mud run/obstacle race, CornEvil, Secondary School Business Studies, Team Building, and School Holiday programmes. Spookers also has a full restaurant that seats up to 280 for meals providing corporate entertainment, team building and the occasional wedding.

In respect of the Spookers team; There are 180 dedicated Spookers Spooks who we love working with. We are proud of the company we have built together. This kind of thing doesn’t just happen. It takes hard work, dedication, and the right people. Spookers really is something special. Very few tourism businesses ever achieve the level of success that we have. We love what we do, working with them all, and we’re excited to keep doing that at Spookers in the meantime. It has been such a privilege to watch hundreds of our employees grow up over the years; some defeating, or taming their demons, and others moving on to great educational opportunities or jobs. We’ve loved going to their weddings and meeting their children. We have made many lifelong friendships among our staff and regardless of whether Spookers sells we will always treasure them.
