Three significant awards were announced at Te Rau Matatini’s Toitū Hauora Māori Health Leadership Summit in Dunedin.

Sir Mason Durie Pae Ora Masters Scholarship, was launched last night. In recognition of a new partnership between Otago University and Te Rau Matatini. The Scholarship acknowledges Sir Mason Durie’s contributions to Māori Health, and alumni of Otago University. Prospective Masters students majoring in mental health, will have the opportunity to apply for this new scholarship in 2019.

Dame Tariana Turia Award - Dame Tariana Turia respected Māori leader and politician consistently set the benchmark to improve the status and wellbeing for Māori. The Dame Tariana Turia Award, for contributions to Whānau Ora (Whānau Wellbeing), was presented to Te Kaika, an Iwi driven health and social hub. In a partnership between Arai Te Uru Whare Hauora, Ōtākou Rūnanga and the University of Otago, Te Kaika is a state of the art primary health care service.

Paraire Huata Award - Paraire Huata was best known for his focus in health, social service sector, and his commitment to Māori mental health and addiction sector. He was part of the Taha Māori programme (Hanmer Springs) and lead in Te Ngaru Learning Systems. This Award provides the opportunity for Māori to gather together, to share and raise the standards of practice in regard to Māori models of practice. Paraire Huata Award was presented by the Huata whānau to Blondie Ngamoki of Otago.
