CMC Markets partners with University of Canterbury

CMC Markets partners with University of Canterbury for inaugural trading challenge

Auckland, New Zealand - Thursday 27th September, 2018

Leading online trading platform, CMC Markets, has launched its first annual University of Canterbury (UoC) Trading Challenge, giving students the unique opportunity to gain risk-free, first-hand experience in real market trading.

The six-week competition will see over 100 UoC business and law students given an NZ$10,000 CMC Markets virtual (demo) fund to trade across a range of financial derivative instruments - including Forex, shares, global indices, and commodities such as oil and gold.

Teams of between one and two people will compete to deliver the highest possible return on investment - with prizes for first, second and third place, as well as a range of spot prizes awarded throughout the competition.

With the launch of the UoC competition, CMC has built on the success of its long-standing University of Auckland Trading Challenge partnership - which this year marked its eighth anniversary.

Chris Smith, General Manager at CMC Markets New Zealand, says, "These challenges are about offering crucial, practical learning experience for students. We want to give participants the chance to get a feel for the markets, how different asset classes perform under different conditions, and to test their investment strategies in a safe environment, before they embark on their careers.

"We're excited by the opportunity to partner with the University of Canterbury to bring the challenge to life. If previous challenges are anything to go by, it's going to be a fierce competition - and we look forward to watching it play out in the coming weeks," says Smith.

Mark Carrodus, finance lecturer at University of Canterbury, says, "For those taking part, the challenge is going to be an invaluable extension of their course-based learning, and a unique opportunity to hone the skills they've learned without the risk that comes with playing the real trading markets. We're delighted to have CMC Markets on board."
