Santa Beams Bedside for Children in New Zealand Hospitals

AUCKLAND, Thursday 20th December 2018: New Zealand technology company Vivid Solutions has come up with an innovative solution to get Santa to hospital bedsides by beaming him into seven hospitals around the country, so all Kiwi children get their chance to chat and interact with Santa.

Vivid Solutions, who have been using state-of-the-art video conferencing technology to help children communicate with Santa in hospitals since 2003, are running a video link directly from Santa’s North Pole themed workshop to a meeting room at each hospital – or in some cases a bedside iPad for children who can’t leave their beds.

Simon Hayden, Chief Executive of Vivid Solutions says Christmas is a really important time for families and having a child in hospital during the holidays can be particularly stressful.

“We want to use our technology to spread a little Christmas joy amongst children and families who are in hospital at this time of year. And although many hospitals also have a Santa arranged to visit the hospitals too, children love the thrill of cyberspace chats with Santa, as they get to imagine him sitting in his place, with the reindeer outside waiting – it really adds to the magical nature of Christmas,” says Hayden.

With seven hospitals on Santa’s call list, potentially hundreds of children will see cyber Santa this year.

West Coast DHB Grey Hospital
Dunedin Paediatrics
Canterbury DHB Paediatrics and Child Haematology and Oncology
The Wilson Centre WDHB
