Ruanui shuns the new Petroleum Exploration and Production
Association of New Zealand (PEPANZ) advertising campaign
starting tonight (Monday).
It lobbies New Zealanders to ignore the seriousness of climate change.
“Status Quo is not an option.
“This Government- which has shown bold leadership of a progressive first world nation combatting climate change by banning future oil exploration- has come under fire by PEPANZ who are desperate to hide the fact they now represent a sunset industry,” says Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, kaiarataki Te Runanga o Ngati Ruanui Trust.
“There’s actually more exploration under the existing permitting system than there has been in the previous 10 years.
“The scaremongering should stop.
“The Government is setting up a focus on sustainable future forms of energy, the sooner these anti-progressors realise this and shift their efforts, the better.
“We keep having to lead the fight against this industrial relic.
“Taranaki is constantly contending with companies who refuse to accept our planet and mokopuna do not need this inheritance.
“The sooner we move onto future focused sustainable forms of energy, the better.”
