Helloworld Travel staff now required to wear scooter helmets

New internal policy aimed at helping prevent injuries

Auckland, 13 February 2019: In a proactive move Helloworld Travel - one of New Zealand's leading retail travel chains - has introduced an internal policy to help protect staff riding scooters.

Helloworld staff who ride scooters during work hours are now required to wear helmets and these are being provided free of charge.

Helloworld Travel Executive General Manager Simon McKearney says, “Scooters are an easy transportation option, especially around congested inner-city areas, and we’ve decided to take a proactive approach to the health and safety of our staff.

“While councils have been debating for months whether to place restrictions around scooter use, we’ve decided to act now and hopefully help prevent further injuries.”

And Helloworld is taking it one step further and offering free helmets to the public as well. “Helloworld will be giving 500 helmets away throughout the country, to those that also want to help protect themselves, with the first release being available from the brand new Helloworld travel store in the Auckland CBD.

Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin stores will be next with our support also offering helmets in the next few weeks,” McKearney says.

“Scooter use will no doubt continue to steadily grow as traffic congestion increases and with that in mind Helloworld decided it was time to act not only in the interests of its staff but also the general public.”
