BlinkPay Signs Agreement With ASB

Emerging Māori fintech start-up, BlinkPay, today announces the signing of its API (Application Programming Interface) agreement with ASB.

“The signing of the API agreement with ASB represents another significant milestone for BlinkPay. The formalization of our relationship with one of New Zealand’s major banks is a testament to the work both ASB and BlinkPay have put in over the past two years as we start building towards the exciting introduction of Open Banking and more broadly the emergence of New Zealand’s Open Data economy” says BlinkPay Chief Executive and founder Daniel Karehana (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Paoa).

Continues Karehana “we are incredibly grateful that ASB is keen to work with us and share our dream of not just launching exciting new payment services to their customers, but also our overarching goal to provide services that will help Kiwi households better manage their day-to-day finances. This is of particular importance given the current strain many households in New Zealand are feeling as they struggle with the impacts of difficult global economic conditions and the growing cost of living crisis.”

ASB confirmed that it “is committed to collaborating and working with enterprising NZ fintech, which BlinkPay is a standout, to help New Zealanders improve their financial wellbeing. We look forward to bringing these new Blinkpay experiences to our customers and building these out as New Zealand’s digital open banking system evolves”.

BlinkPay Chief Product Officer Adrian Smith (Ngāpuhi) says “Our initial focus with ASB will be in launching next generation payment products that utilize the new Payment NZ API standards. In addition, we are also developing other products that enable ASB customers to better manage their bill payments within ASB’s own app to increase visibility and reduce stress on households.”

Notes Smith, “We feel that this is just the start of the journey between BlinkPay and ASB, and we look forward to a long and prosperous relationship.”
