Garage Project Fizzing At Big Wins At The New Zealand Brewers Guild Awards

Garage Project has come up trumps in this year’s Brewers Guild Awards winning Champion Large Brewery, Champion New Zealand Beer and scooping one Trophy, nine Gold, twelve Silver, and eight Bronze medals. Out of 33 beers entered in the awards, an incredible 29 won medals.

This is the second year in a row that Garage Project has been named the Champion Large Brewery in New Zealand, defending a title that historically has been held by multinational brewing companies.

The aptly named Chance, Luck and Magic from Garage Project’s Wild Workshop not only won the European Ale Trophy for a second year in a row, but was also crowned the Champion Beer in New Zealand. The brewing process behind Chance, Luck and Magic is a true labour of love, with each batch taking three years to produce, starting from a completely wild spontaneous fermentation in central city Wellington, through to ageing in barrels for several years in the Wild Workshop cellar before a final blending takes place.

The Wellington based brewery is carving out a global reputation for its innovative, world class beers, recently being named ‘People’s Choice’ winner at the Firestone Walker Invitational Festival in California. With two brewing sites in Wellington, Garage Project in Aro Valley, and Wild Workshop at Te Aro, and a third partner brewery, bStudio in the Hawke’s Bay, the capacity to experiment and innovate is vast.

Head Brewer and Co-Founder Pete Gillespie says that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to create the high quality beers that come out of all brewing locations.
