The Icehouse Celebrates Its 21st Birthday

Business growth experts The Icehouse celebrate over two decades of backing, developing and accelerating the growth of kiwi businesses – the engine room of the New Zealand economy.

The Icehouse and Icehouse Ventures are this month celebrating a huge milestone. 21 years of developing the capability of business owners and leaders to accelerate business growth. 21 years of identifying, and nurturing business owner managers who display grit, to equip kiwi SMEs to weather storms, identify opportunities and thrive, and backing brave startup founders and investors.

“From the very beginning in 2001, The Icehouse Growth business was formed to help build an ecosystem that would nurture New Zealand’s SMEs. Our purpose is to help New Zealand’s businesses achieve their extraordinary potential and in doing so to make New Zealand a better, more prosperous and sustainable place to live. And that objective has no end point. We’re playing an “infinite game” and are looking forward to the next 21 years” says Liz Wotherspoon, CEO, Growth, The Icehouse.

“So we continue to help and support our Kiwi SME customers to think bigger and smarter about their businesses, their communities and the environment. We continue to be a place of spirited connection and conversation. Of provocation and challenge and of learning and support.”

The Icehouse has worked with over 4,000 established Kiwi business owners and over 350 start-ups since 2001. In 2020 alone these businesses generated $44.3B in total revenue, $9.5B in total export revenue, and employed over 153,300 people across New Zealand.

“21 years is a huge milestone for The Icehouse, but it’s much more significant for the businesses we work with. This is something we can all celebrate” says Liz Wotherspoon.

The wider Icehouse whanau will be getting together to mark the milestone in August, with a jazz band, cocktails, nibbles, and speeches from members who helped to build what The Icehouse is today.
