Kiwi Company GravityLab Ranks Top In The World For Tech Impact As Founder Gives 95% To Charity
New Zealand-based automation consultancy GravityLab has been ranked first in the world in its B Corp category, a rare distinction that places the Kiwi company ahead of global tech giants in social and environmental performance. To date, the business has funded the rescue of 500+ children from human trafficking and is challenging Kiwi businesses to think differently about ‘impact’.
The B Corp framework, widely regarded as one of the most rigorous impact assessments for business, evaluates governance, environmental responsibility, employee wellbeing and supply chain ethics. Following its 2025 B Corp recertification, GravityLab was awarded: 1st in New Zealand, 2nd in Australia and significantly - 1st globally in ‘Technology-Based Support Services and Computer Programming Services’.

But for CEO and founder Daniel Howell, these rankings are only one part of a much larger story - one that upends traditional ideas of business ownership and return on investment. “Too many companies are still asking how they can ‘justify’ or afford doing good,” Howell says. “We have flipped the question. What happens when you build a company where doing good is the reason it exists?”
GravityLab develops workflow automation systems for logistics companies, law firms, government agencies and listed businesses, but unlike typical tech consultancies, the company is 95% owned by a charitable trust and its profits go directly toward funding frontline anti-trafficking work in South-East Asia. To date, that work has contributed to the rescue of over 500 children.
Over the past 7 years, GravityLab has earned roughly $1 million for fighting human trafficking across Thailand and Cambodia. The company used to work with Child Rescue and Hagar New Zealand - both of whom Daniel describes as incredibly dedicated and effective - but recently took a decision to fund this type of work even more directly. Today, it pays for the employment of 7 ‘agents’ who work to conduct rescue operations and prosecute the corrupt owners of trafficking rings and the pimps and officers who support them. This is done through their local partners at the Ronnasit Foundation. A recent case helped convict a senior police officer for child sex trafficking, resulting in a 325-year prison sentence.
“Our agents have never lost a case,” explains Howell. “That’s not just good for the mission - it also gives our team a reason to care deeply about doing excellent work every day.”
Purpose-led, performance-driven
Despite giving away its majority ownership, GravityLab is commercially strong - consistently landing major projects across APAC, Europe and North America. It’s proof, Howell argues, that purpose and performance don’t have to be in conflict. “People think giving away equity or prioritising social good means sacrificing growth. For us, it’s the opposite. This model has made our team more productive, our culture stronger and our brand more trusted,” he believes.
Global recognition, local roots
The B Corp recertification caps off a milestone year for the company as interest in ethical supply chains, emissions reduction and responsible automation has surged globally. GravityLab’s clients span a mix of public and private sector organisations looking to modernise while aligning with even-increasing ambitious ESG goals.
The company is now one of the highest-ranked B Corps in Australasia and the top-scoring tech firm in its class worldwide and Howell believes that’s only possible because the company has stayed anchored in its values from day one. “We’re not perfect - but we’re proof that it’s possible to do things differently and that doing good can scale.”
