Registrations Open For FMG Young Farmer Of The Year District Contests – Season 58 Begins

New Zealand Young Farmers (NZYF) is excited to announce that registrations are now open for the FMG Young Farmer of the Year Season 58 District Contests, marking the start of a new season of one of New Zealand’s most iconic agricultural competitions.

A Legacy of Growing Leaders

Now entering its 58th season, the FMG Young Farmer of the Year has become a cornerstone of rural New Zealand life. The contest not only celebrates practical skills and sector knowledge but also develops future leaders for the primary industries. Past competitors have gone on to become innovators, business leaders, and influential voices in the food and fibre sector.

District Contests: The First Step

Over the coming months (October–November 2025), District Contests will take place nationwide, drawing together young farmers from across New Zealand. These events are designed to test a broad range of skills from stock handling and machinery operation to agribusiness and public speaking.

From each district, the top competitors will advance to the Regional Finals (February–April 2026). Regional champions will then earn their place at the Grand Final in Taranaki (2–4 July 2026), where the ultimate title of FMG Young Farmer of the Year will be decided.

National Significance

With its blend of tradition, competition, and community, the contest continues to attract widespread attention. Local clubs, schools, and rural communities rally around their representatives, while our partners and sponsors continue to support the event as a showcase of New Zealand’s rural talent and resilience.
