NZ Mum Builds Home Admin App That Overtakes Tinder And Hinge In The NZ App Store

Wellington, NZ - In households across Aotearoa, the daily juggle of parenting logistics - school emails, forgotten togs, birthday invites, costume days - is pushing families to the brink. And it’s mothers who carry the lion’s share: 90% are the primary coordinators of family admin and 66% report being very or extremely stressed by it.

Personal Admin Manager or ‘PAM’ - a New Zealand-built app and winner of the Tipu Innovation Award at the 2025 Matihiko Awards - is changing this.

Two weeks ago PAM hit #2 in the Apple App Store Lifestyle rankings in NZ - ahead of dating giants Tinder and Hinge and also beating Pinterest and Google home.

“There are 101 project management tools for businesses,” says Retter. “But nothing purpose-built for the real project managers - parents. PAM does the thinking for you, and makes the invisible mental load visible - so it can finally be shared,” says Nicole Retter - Co-Founder and CEO of PAM.

The inspiration for PAM came directly from Retter’s own life. Coming out of Covid with two preschoolers, an injured husband who couldn’t use his arms, and a demanding new marketing role, she was drowning in family logistics: missed birthday parties, forgotten swim gear, double-backing for errands. Talking with friends, she realised she wasn’t alone - and that there was no purpose-built tool to reduce the invisible mental load weighing families down, particularly mothers.

How it works

Soft launched in February, PAM uses AI to read comms (this could be an email, a screenshot or even a crumpled birthday invite) which then becomes an event, a reminder to RSVP, a nudge to buy a gift or a note to pack a costume - all handled automatically and assigned to the appropriate family member.

“That visibility is key. By turning invisible tasks into tangible entries, PAM transforms conversations about who’s doing what from emotional to factual - making it easier to rebalance the load, loop in partners, whānau, or paid help, and build a more sustainable support network,” explains Retter, adding that “It’s more than just a digital organiser - PAM is a quiet revolution in how families operate.”

Broader impact on equality

With over 6,500 users - 75% acquired purely through word-of-mouth - PAM is proving the scale of the problem and the hunger for a solution. And the impact is already being felt: over a quarter of users report a 70–90% reduction in family admin stress. “We’ve had users go from being the ones who turned up to school without the togs,” says Retter, “to being the parent everyone else checks with to see what’s coming up.”

What’s more, the impact stretches beyond logistics. “Women deserve to enjoy both career and motherhood - not just survive them,” says Retter. “The gender pay gap won’t close if we ignore the unpaid work happening behind the scenes in homes everywhere.”

With its first funding round nearing completion, PAM is preparing to take its solution global and support overwhelmed mothers and fathers worldwide.

“What started as a personal solution has become a movement and we’re excited to bring more parents onboard, lighten the load and prove that technology can make home life fairer, calmer and more joyful,” concludes Retter.

PAM is available now on iOS and Android.

About PAM – Personal Admin Manager
PAM (Personal Admin Manager) is a Wellington-based startup reducing the mental load for parents through an AI-powered mobile app. PAM turns the chaos of family life — emails, PDFs, images, WhatsApp messages, voice notes, school newsletters, calendars and more — into a smart, shared calendar and task list. Unlike workplace productivity tools, PAM is purpose-built for families, making it easy to coordinate partners, kids, and the wider “village.”

Since launching in early 2025, PAM has grown rapidly to thousands of users, with families reporting stress reductions of up to 70–90%. The app is available globally on iOS and Android, with a mission to give parents back time, headspace, and calm.
