The Grace Street Project Breaks Ground: Transformational South Invercargill Community Hub To Begin Construction

The Invercargill Community Connections Trust has announced that construction of The Grace Street Project will commence on September 15, 2025, following the appointment of its main contractor Brown Goble Construction JV Ltd. The groundbreaking initiative aims to add new vitality to South Invercargill through the creation of an innovative community hub. After obtaining Building Consent for Stage One and nearing consent approval for the final stage, the project team made the decision to begin construction immediately. The construction will proceed in two distinct phases: Stage One to be completed by late April 2026

• Demolition and rebuilding of the middle building into the planned two-storey section

• Removal of existing floors and installation of a single-level concrete slab floor

• Earthquake strengthening of the back building ensuring complete weather proofing

Stage Two to be completed October 2026

• $2.3m still to be raised to complete this stage

• Completion of remaining construction elements

• Fit-out and commissioning

With construction beginning this month, The Grace Street Project is on track to open its doors by December 2026, provided fundraising efforts continue successfully to support the seamless transition between construction phases.

The project team continues to work diligently on securing the remaining $2.3 million required to complete both construction phases without interruption. The substantial savings achieved through the tender process have significantly improved the project's financial position and timeline prospects.
