Carrfields Group Invests In Research And Innovation With A New Research And Development Farm
The Carrfields Group continues to show commitment to future growth and excellence in the agricultural sector with its latest investment, the recently acquired “Spring Farm” at 361 Hinds Highway, Winslow, Canterbury, previously owned by NZ Tractors.
The 20-hectare property, which includes a home, office and sheds, will be transformed into a state-of-the-art research and development facility. The site will serve as the base for research, breeding, and seed technology efforts—a hub for innovation and collaboration.
The Spring Farm site will become the new home of Winseed, housing its research activities. The farm will feature a Breeding Centre with state-of-the-art glasshouses, nurseries, grow houses, and trial plots to drive its R&D programme and high-grade seed production.
This property will be used to support key work within other areas of the Carrfields group, including conducting grain and seed screening trials (for pastoral, arable, and vegetable seeds), producing specialist stock seed, conducting precision machinery trials, and trials on plant nutrition and protection.
Craig Carr, Group Managing Director, said, “This investment demonstrates our dedication to science, innovation and excellence in agriculture. Findings from this dedicated research facility will help us to continue to offer our customers modern and responsible farming solutions, ensuring they get the best out of their crops.”
Key appointments have been made to support this innovation project. The project team is currently working on Phase 1 of the project, which includes building infrastructure and planning rotational planting over the next 12 months.
