NZ Young Farmers Launches Gift A Membership Initiative To Grow The Future Of Food And Fibre

At NZ Young Farmers, we know the future of food and fibre in New Zealand rests in the hands of passionate, skilled, and connected young people. With just over 60 clubs nationwide and over 1,600 members, our organisation has been building strong communities and opportunities for the next generation for almost 100 years. But we also know there’s significant room to grow, and that’s where our new Gift a Membership initiative comes in.

Gift a Membership is a simple and impactful way for businesses, employers, and individuals to support young people across rural New Zealand. By covering the cost of a membership, supporters are doing far more than paying a fee – they are opening doors to career and leadership development, helping to build peer networks and friendships, and fostering resilience and wellbeing in rural communities. Each membership gives a young person the chance to connect, thrive, and contribute not just to their local club, but to the wider food and fibre sector.

NZ Young Farmers CEO, Cheyne Gillooly, says the initiative provides a unique opportunity for businesses to invest in their people and communities.

“For businesses, this initiative is a great entry point to supporting the future of agriculture. It’s an opportunity to give back to a local community, add value to employees, and invest in the young people who will go on to lead and grow the sector. Whether that’s backing a local club or region, acknowledging hardworking volunteers, or giving a hand to those facing hardship, every contribution directly strengthens our rural communities and the people who keep them thriving.”

This contribution doesn’t just support individuals. Depending on the level of support, it could extend to an entire club and its members — a significant value add for small rural communities where Young Farmers clubs are often central to social connection and leadership opportunities.

Whether it’s employers looking for a meaningful way to support their staff, businesses wanting to give back to their region, or individuals passionate about the future of farming, Gift a Membership offers a tangible way to make a difference. Together, we can bring more young people into our clubs and ensure the future of agriculture remains strong, connected, and vibrant.
