Time Machines, Luxury Motors, And Liam Lawson’s First Car: The Year's Most Viewed Motors On Trade Me Revealed
High-octane supercars with million-dollar price tags, an iconic movie classic, and Liam Lawson’s Subaru have been revealed as the most-viewed Trade Me motors listings of the year.
Brendan Hall, Head of Trade Me Motors, said the top ten list shows the public is captivated by a mix of high-performance luxury, collector's nostalgia, and cars with a connection to motorsport.
"This year's list proves that whether it's an ultra-exclusive supercar or a meticulously-maintained classic, Kiwi are drawn to listings that stand out in terms of rarity, performance, and luxury models. The collective asking price of the entire top 10 list equals almost four million dollars, which shows that even if they aren't buying, Kiwi love to check out the top-tier end of the car market."
The most viewed listing this year, attracting 104,371 views, was a cult classic that promised a journey through time: a 1981 Other Delorean DMC-12 with an asking price of $100,000.
"The DeLorean, famous for its role in Back to the Future, brings a huge amount of movie magic to the table," Mr Hall said. "The massive viewing numbers prove that the dream of owning a piece of pop culture history is very much alive, and at a six-figure price, it’s a relatively accessible classic compared to the supercars on this list.

Following closely in second place was a customised 2000 Subaru Forester, which attracted 88,633 views, belonging to Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson.
"This wasn't just any old Subaru; this was Liam Lawson's very first car, which he and a team of top performance professionals customized and auctioned for charity," Mr Hall explained.
"Lawson partnered with sponsors like Subaru New Zealand and Possum Bourne Motorsport to rebuild and tune the car to an impressive 300 wheel horsepower. Selling the car to raise over $35,000 for mental health charity I AM HOPE.”
Aspirational supercars steal the show
The top-end luxury and performance segment dominated the upper half of the list, attracting massive viewing numbers despite their hefty prices.
"The aspiration factor is huge. Our third most-viewed listing, the 2023 Ferrari SF90 Spider, attracted 46,797 views with an eye-watering asking price of $899,990. Close behind was a 2014 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster in fourth place, viewed 39,909 times with a price tag of $449,000," said Mr Hall.
The most expensive listing in the entire top ten was the cutting-edge 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto, priced at a remarkable $1,123,000, which secured tenth place with 30,120 views. This was followed by the 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, priced at $599,990, which landed in fifth place.
"These numbers confirm that while most of us can only dream, we are certainly keen to see the newest and most exclusive high-performance machines on the market."
A marine listing hauls its way in
Securing an impressive seventh place was a unique boat listing, a Stabicraft 2250 UCC, titled Matt Watson's 2250 UCC Stabicraft Swordfish Mojo.
"This is a serious fishing vessel designed for heavy-duty offshore work, and it reeled in 34,642 views with an asking price of $219,000," said Mr Hall. "Its inclusion in the top ten, which is overwhelmingly dominated by high-end cars, shows that the demand for premium, purpose-built marine craft is also incredibly strong. It’s a very high-value asset, which naturally attracts intense scrutiny from potential buyers and enthusiasts."
Rounding out the list were classic and reliable vehicles: a second-place finish for a more humble 2000 Subaru Forester ($9,000), the classic 1987 Land Rover Range Rover Classic ($28,999), the reliable 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser VX ($189,990), and the iconic 2001 Mazda RX7 ($15,000).
"The blend of listings this year truly reflects the diverse tastes of Kiwi, spanning nostalgia, luxury, performance, and serious recreation," Mr Hall concluded.
