Airports Welcome First Regional Airline Loan

The New Zealand Airports Association supports today’s announcement of the first disbursement of loan funding for regional airlines from the Regional Infrastructure Fund.

Associate Transport Minister Hon James Meager has confirmed that $1.1 million from the $30 million package will support Golden Bay Air’s operations.

“This is a positive step and we acknowledge the Government’s commitment to supporting regional connectivity,” Chief Executive Billie Moore says.

“Targeted support to maintain aircraft, refinance debt and strengthen operational reliability is an investment in the long term sustainability of the regional network.

“While we recognise that the assessment process is complex, it is important that the remaining funding is allocated as soon as possible so airlines have the certainty they need to plan and invest with confidence.”

NZ Airports also welcomes the Government’s support for interlining between regional carriers and larger airlines.

“We hope major airlines will actively explore opportunities to partner with regional airlines to extend their networks and provide more seamless connections for regional travellers.

“Done well, interlining allows passengers to book multi leg journeys on a single ticket, improves load factors for regional airlines, and strengthens the overall resilience of the national aviation network.”
