Non-Residential Construction Recovery Supports Demand For Professional Painting Services Across Auckland

New Zealand's painting and decorating services industry is estimated to reach $2.0 billion in revenue by 2025-26, growing at an annualised rate of 1.7 percent over the five-year period, according to IBISWorld's latest industry analysis. The growth has been underpinned by favourable trends in the non-residential building, infrastructure and industrial segments, which have outweighed the slump in painting work associated with the residential construction downturn. Stats NZ data shows that construction sales reached $24 billion in the December 2025 quarter, marking the first time in nearly two years that annual growth in construction industry sales has been recorded. With 81,249 construction enterprises operating across the country and the industry expected to rebound at an average annual growth rate of 4.4 percent from 2026 to 2029, the pipeline of painting and finishing work is positioned to strengthen through the medium term.

Auckland's residential property market has seen homeowners increasingly prioritise renovation over new construction as building costs remain elevated. Professional exterior house painters in Auckland are reporting sustained demand from property owners seeking to refresh and protect ageing housing stock, with exterior repainting representing one of the most cost-effective methods of maintaining property value and weather resistance. The trend aligns with broader national data: Stats NZ reports that 35,552 new homes were consented nationally in the year to October 2025, a 6.2 percent increase from 2024, with much of Auckland's activity concentrated in renovation and upgrade work on existing dwellings rather than new builds. Low-VOC coating systems and heat-reflective exterior paints have gained particular traction among Auckland homeowners responding to both sustainability concerns and the city's humid subtropical climate.
