YourRide, New Zealand's No.1 taxi app, has announced that Total Mobility cardholders in Auckland can now book and pay for subsidised taxi rides directly through the YourRide app, removing the need for paper vouchers and making getting around simpler and more dignified for passengers with disabilities.
Eligible passengers receive a 75% subsidy on taxi fares, up to a maximum of $80 per trip. The remaining balance is collected automatically through the app via a pre-loaded credit or debit card, meaning the whole journey, from booking to payment, is handled in one place.
A step forward for accessible transport in Auckland
"Getting around should be easy for everyone," says Conrad Heaven, Chief Marketing Officer at YourRide. "Total Mobility passengers deserve the same convenience as any other passenger, and that's exactly what this delivers. Book through the app, track your driver in real-time, and pay automatically. No vouchers, no fuss."
Total Mobility is a nationwide scheme funded by regional councils and the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) that provides subsidised transport for people who are unable to use public transport due to a permanent disability. Auckland has one of the largest Total Mobility user bases in the country.
Until now, passengers have typically relied on paper-based voucher systems and phone bookings. YourRide's integration brings the scheme into the app era, offering Total Mobility users real-time driver tracking, upfront fare estimates, and the full range of YourRide safety features, including police-vetted drivers and in-vehicle security cameras.
Service animals are welcome in all YourRide vehicles.
Expanding beyond Auckland
YourRide is currently live with Total Mobility in Auckland; other regions are expected to follow.
"Auckland is the starting point, but this is just the beginning," says Heaven. "We're committed to making YourRide accessible to Total Mobility passengers right across New Zealand."
How to get started
Total Mobility cardholders in Auckland can download the YourRide app from the App Store or Google Play, indicate they are a Total Mobility cardholder, and load a credit or debit card to cover any remaining fare balance. From there, booking a subsidised ride works exactly the same as any other YourRide booking.
