Regional Arts Initiative Under Way

Funding submissions are invited for projects aimed at advancing the arts in the Auckland region.

Creative New Zealand has set up seven Regional Strengths Strategy Pilot projects around the country, with the Auckland regional project known as Creative Cities.

Creative New Zealand has defined the region as the cities of Auckland, Manukau, Waitakere and North Shore.

A sum of $200,000 has been set aside for funding innovative projects that support sustainable arts infrastructure across the region. Examples could include: partnerships, workshops, training, employment initiatives, facilitation, research and marketing.

Auckland City’s manager, leisure advisors, Paul Heron says: “Creative Cities involves local authorities working across their boundaries to support and develop the arts infrastructure of the region.”

To help with submissions and project ideas, five concept development workshops will be held across the Auckland region this month. The details of these are:
Thursday July 19 7-10pm Parnell Community Centre, Jubilee Building
54 Parnell Road, Parnell
Saturday July 21 2-5pm New Lynn Community Centre
Totara Avenue, New Lynn
Tuesday July 24 7-10pm Otara Music Arts Centre
Cnr Newbury Street and Bairds Road, Otara
Saturday July 28 2-5pm Conference Room, Bruce Mason Centre
Cnr The Promenade and Hurstmere Road Takapuna

An additional workshop will be held specifically for Maori-focussed projects.

Submission forms will be available at the workshops.

Applicants are strongly advised to attend the workshops in order to ensure that project submissions meet all Creative City’s criteria.

August 24 is the closing day for submissions and assessments will be completed by September 20. Funding decisions will be made by October 10 with applicants advised shortly afterward.
