Risk Makes Way for New and Dynamic Programming in 2002
Risk players have just eight weeks of their favourite game left, as the show makes way for new and dynamic programming in 2002.
TVNZ and the Lotteries Commission say the last Risk show will go to air on TV One on Wednesday, 13 February.
“For the past 14 years the Lotteries Commission and TVNZ have worked closely to consistently deliver new and dynamic programming for New Zealand viewers, and our decision is another reflection of our vibrant and mutually beneficial partnership,” says Glen Sowry, TVNZ General Manager Public Affairs.
“We are however working closely with the Commission to develop new programmes that will more closely align with the exciting and innovative programming schedule we have planned for 2002.”
Risk was introduced by the Lotteries Commission in July this year. Since then, more than 150,000 people have won over $4.5 million in prizes.
Lotteries General Marketing Manager Vanessa Ellis says the show has attracted a divided market.
“We’ve found that the show is watched by younger people, who don’t necessarily buy a ticket, while older people tend to be the ticket buyers,” she says.

“We are working closely with TVNZ to develop new game show formats that will appeal to a range of audiences and which will have strong viewer and player support. This will allow us to deliver on our mandate of providing a good quality product that delivers strong sales and allows us to meet our target of transferring money to the Lottery Grants Board for distribution to the community.
“The game’s host Jon Bridges has a strong personal following and embodies many of the qualities we have as an organisation – integrity, humour and a sense of community. The Commission is talking with Jon about a range of options for the New Year.”
