In July 2000, playwright Mel Johnston filmed three applicants going through the process of applying to Creative New Zealand.
Two years later, this much-anticipated documentary film hits BATS for a five-day season.
Confidence in me features playwrights Jo Randerson and Ryan McFadyen and performance-poets Moira Wairama & Tony Hopkins (with POART poetry collective) – all of whom are planning to develop or mount theatre projects.
From bureaucratic hoop-jumping to late-nite naval-gazing Confidence in me closely tracks their progress, seesawing between moments of fragility and absurdity along the way.
