Fringe NZ Participants Run Wild

The suits will gather and super-heroic Fringe NZ participants will run wild down Willis Street at 1pm on Friday 31 January.

“The Fringe NZ Drag Race will have evil villains and strong jawed heroes scamper, scoot, scuttle, stride and speed their way down lower Willis Street,” said Tim Renner, Fringe NZ Director.

“We expect they’ll be wearing oddball costumes they believe can save the world.”

The Drag Race is the public launch of the 2003 Fringe NZ Festival: Ten Fast Years - so named because it is the Fringe’s tenth birthday.

“Because our theme this year is all about getting places quickly we wanted to test who of the more than 700 Fringe NZ participants can move faster than a speeding bullet,” said Renner.

“The superheroes idea also seemed appropriate to celebrate the innovative, creative and sometimes downright funky art and events that Fringe participants have provided over the last ten years,” he said.

Fringe NZ is Wellington's only arts festival this summer and speeds into the capital from 14 February to 9 March.
