The Sour: Wāhine Grunge-Punk Quartet Release Debut EP 'Daughters'
1 May 2026

“This grungy punk Tāmaki Makaurau-based, all-women four-piece have impressed with previous singles – the Meat Puppets-meets-Flying Nun sound of Your God and Mine and the pop throb and Clean-like roll of Frank (2024)” - The New Zealand Listener, Songs of the Week
Tāmaki Makaurau-based four-piece The Sour are a band of wāhine bonded by a shared love of grunge, punk, and all things loud and heavy. Today they release their highly anticipated debut EP, Daughters.
The first single, ‘Your God & Mine’, debuted at #1 on the bFM Top 10 and quickly gained attention from listeners, DJs, and tastemakers across Aotearoa, cementing the band as one of the most exciting new heavy acts to watch.
Second single ‘Hex’ is a
riff-heavy grunge-rock anthem about revenge and being
underestimated. Undertheradar described it
as:
“Hex delivers sweet / snarling grungy hook power
in abundance.”
Joining the singles are two fuzz-fuelled tracks, ‘Drinking On A Sunday’ and ‘You’, completing the EP.
Daughters captures the band’s love of heavy riffs, gritty hooks, and unapologetic attitude, while also celebrating friendship, whakapapa, and the power of wāhine making loud music together.
To celebrate the release of Daughters, The Sour are performing two shows in Te Ika-a-Māui this May.
