For too long has he heard others tell his story, too long others have played with the matter of the facts, in music, in books, in plays, in painting and movies. Ned Kelly the Outlaw of the Australian Bush has come back 123 years after his execution to tell his unique story in his own way. As a backdrop the Sydney Nolan paintings ‘The Kelly Gang’ give another dimension to this original solo performance. A show for anyone who believes in the fight for justice.

Brian Hotter originally played Ned Kelly for Wellington City Art Gallery in March 2002. Mark Amery wrote the version of the script and a series of twenty-minute performances were presented to the corporate sponsors of the Gallery directed by Tracey Monstra. The ideas of the performance was Kelly coming back from the dead and from his own unique perspective introducing the paintings of Sydney Nolan. The performance was so successful that it led to others at the Gallery. The show now focuses on Kelly, using the paintings of Sydney Nolan to help tell his story.
