Photographic exhibition Celebrating cultural wealth In Christchurch

Christchurch will host a photographic exhibition in early Feb’ that focuses on the cultural and religious diversity of the city.

The exhibition, ‘Warp and Weft – the fabric of society’, is the culmination of two years research and photography by Giora Dan. It is a photo documentary that attempts to expose the beauty of cultural and religion diversity that on our doorsteps. It aims to promote acceptance, understanding and pride in the different faces of this increasingly diverse city.

The exhibition covers the following cultural groups: Islam, Judaism, Coptic and Catholic Churches, Tibetan, Thai and Chinese Buddhism, Hindu and Hari-Krishna.

The exhibition will run for 3 weeks from the Fourth of February 2003 at C.O.C.A. (The Center of Contemporary Arts), 66 Gloucester St.

Having arrived in Christchurch as a new migrant in 1998, Giora has found accomplishing a body of work of this type very rewarding, even more so when considering that his country of origin is Israel, a nation best characterized by religious and ethnic difference, rather than acceptance and understanding.
