Fringe NZ Gets Technological

Pelorus Trust presents an exhibition that explores technology and art at (e)-vision from 2 to 8 March.

Six of Wellington’s hottest new media artists are exhibiting Fast Works? an exhibition of feedback, surveillance, medical imagery, fragmentation and identity. Photography, video, pagan culture, music and an international doll collection interact to create a space of bizarre movement and dramatic imagery whose limit is moderated only by technology and the artists’ imagination.

“Fast Works? explores technology in art, finding a narrative or reflective space within our fast technology driven world,” said Tim Renner, Fringe NZ Director. “It also allows the passer by to become engaged in the art as part of the experience of everyday life.”

Fast Works? provides resources to multi-media artists who would otherwise find it difficult to set up installations on this scale, and in turn, this eclectic art is made accessible to the general public. This is part of the vision of presenters, Pelorus Trust, who last year gave us ‘Connected’, an exhibition of artists from the Netherlands and New Zealand.

Fast Works? curated by Renner, manipulates the space inside the (e)-vision building; ceiling, windows and walls are utilised.

Darcy Gladwin, an artist looking into the intertwining of pagan culture and technology is excited by the opportunity of Fast Works? as it allows the viewer and artist an “avenue for works that are normally stuck in austere galleries.”

The participating artists are: Darcy Gladwin, Katherine Allard, Struan Ashby, John di Stefano, Ruth Korver and Bridgit Haden.

The freshest technology based artworks in town will be at (e)-vision on the corner of Blair and Wakefield Street from 12noon - 6pm from Sunday 2 to Saturday 8 March.
