Magdalena Aotearoa prepares for Brisbane
Festival
Magdalena Aotearoa is holding a Benefit Cabaret Season at The Space, Newtown on 28, 29 and 30 March. The season will raise funds to assist a delegation of 16 women who are travelling to the Magdalena Australia Festival in Brisbane in April.
On Friday 28 and Sunday 30 March, the cabaret will feature a line-up of Wellington's wild and witty performers. This is an opportunity for local audiences to experience some of the material that will be presented in Brisbane, as well as to enjoy performances by other artists who are generously lending their support.
Performers confirmed so far include Te Coasties (Dale Ferris and Rapai Te Hau), Mr Sterile Assembly (Chrissie Butler and Keiran Monaghan), Jo Randerson, Madeline McNamara, Sally Rodwell, France Herve, Jessica Sutherland and Rhys Latton, Lisa Maule, Jane Pierard, Ines Ferrer-Berges and Jane Donald.
The night of Sunday 30 March sees the return of Me He Maunga, created and performed by Hinemoana Baker, Mabeth Ciurans, Jess Chambers and Dale Ferris. This fantastic musical collaboration was first performed on International Women's Day as part of the Fringe Festival, so if you missed it then, here's one more chance to catch it!
Tickets are $20 each night (door sales only) and the doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. There will be raffles during the evening, with prizes donated by local artists, and a mystery bottle raffle.
Other
fundraising activities are a screening of The Pianist at the
Penthouse Cinema on Thursday 20 March and a 2-day workshop
led by France Herve on 15-16 March. Tickets for the film
are $15, and the workshop is $80 (students $60). To book
for the film or workshop, phone the Magdalena Aotearoa
office, (04) 385 0777.
