NZ Rugby’s Ultimate Stud Is…

Nz Rugby’s Ultimate Stud Is…

Auckland Blues fullback / winger Doug Howlett is New Zealand’s hunkiest rugby player.

Howlett emerged victorious in the search by nzoom and Canterbury of New Zealand to find New Zealand rugby’s hunkiest player.

The stud search was part of Canterbury’s launch of its new six-stud boots, and nzoom.com received hundreds of entries on its website.

Each entrant voted for their top 6 studs. Howlett came in ahead of fellow Blues player, Carlos Spencer, who was closely followed by Regan King (Chiefs).

Rounding out the top six were: 1. Doug Howlett (Blues), 2. Carlos Spencer (Blues), 3. Regan King (Chiefs), 4. Daniel Carter (Crusaders), 5. Richie McCaw (Crusaders), and 6. Aaron Mauger (Crusaders).

Canterbury General Manager John McConchie said the competition showed New Zealanders’ passion for “all things rugby”.

“Kiwis are so knowledgable about rugby and the country’s top players,” Mr McConchie said. “We’re pleased to have been able to generate some debate about our top players and have so many people enter into the spirit of the competition.”

nzoom sports editor Sophie Lyon said the top two hunks weren’t surprising, but competition was fierce for the runners-up spots, and all short-listed studs had their supporters.

“Studliness is a subjective thing, but our top hunks seem to have mass appeal. It’s great that we’re in an era where we can appreciate these players for more than their playing ability alone.”
